About Jenni Merrifield

Senior UX designer specializing in thoughtful, human‑centred experiences for complex, data‑rich and compliance‑aware products.

Hello! I’m Jenni Merrifield, the designer behind strawberryJAMM Designs.

I craft intuitive, scalable user experiences for enterprise software, spanning justice systems, environmental monitoring, API security, and factory automation. My work blends strategy, collaboration, and careful execution to help expert users work with confidence.

I believe great UX is intentional, iterative and cultivated. Like a garden, ideas and designs are planted, nurtured, pruned, brought to bloom, harvested, and savoured.

UX as a Growth Cycle

🌱 Planting

Discovery & framing

Research user needs, align stakeholders, and define what success looks like for both users and the business.

🌿 Nurturing

Ideation & prototyping

Explore options with sketches, wireframes, and prototypes; iterate quickly with technical input.

✂️ Pruning

Usability & simplification

Reduce friction, clarify flows, and make complex tasks straightforward through progressive disclosure and sensible defaults.

🌸 Blooming

Design systems & delivery

Document styles and interaction patterns that align with existing component libraries (e.g., Bootstrap, Ext JS, Ant Design) for consistent implementation and smooth hand-off.

🍓 Harvesting

Release readiness & QA partnership

Coordinate with engineering and QA on UI/interaction acceptance criteria, UX bug triage, and last-mile polish; confirm component styles, spacing, and states match guidance.

🍴 Savouring

Outcomes & learning

Validate post-release with users, review metrics, and capture insights to feed back into the next cycle.

A Bit More About Me

Jenni, smiling off to the right side and wearing a crocheted strawberry hat with pearl accents, rests her chin on her folded hands, leaning on a stack of books including 'The Design of Everyday Things', 'Living with Complexity', 'Predictably Irrational', and 'Wearing the Cape'.

I’m a lifelong learner who enjoys delving into unfamiliar domains and turning complexity into clarity. I’m known for bridging conversations between business and engineering, and I value teams that are diverse, supportive, and proud of the work they ship.

I also care about team culture — yes, I’m the one who volunteers for the social committee, brings my lightsabre on Star Wars Day, and makes sure the good snacks are covered.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me with a book or podcast about speculative fiction, leaning over a jigsaw puzzle, or playing tabletop board games, card games, and roleplaying games with friends.

I’m a proud “Left Coast” Canadian, based in Metro Vancouver (Pacific Time). I prefer hybrid work arrangements, though I’m comfortable in-office and open to remote for the right opportunity.

What I Do

Jenni, sitting on the floor working with a whiteboard covered in colorful sketches and sticky notes. She is drawing a red heart on a sticky note while surrounded by diagrams, arrows, and brainstorming notes.

I help teams ship enterprise‑grade experiences that balance user needs, regulatory realities, and technical feasibility. Previous work includes:

  • LMI – GoPxL: end‑to‑end UX leadership for 3D inspection software.
  • Vaisala – viewLinc 5: re‑imagined IA and interaction flows for environmental monitoring.
  • Syscon – Elite OMS: modernizing offender management workflows with a service‑oriented web front‑end.
  • Layer 7 / CA: UX for developer‑centric API security and policy management tools.
  • CGTV Games: application "lobby" (dashboard) UI and registration flow redesign to improve conversion and retention.

Core Strengths

Strategic UI/UX Direction

Set design vision, ground decisions in research, and apply systems thinking to complex problem spaces.

Leadership & Collaboration

Guide cross‑functional teams, mentor stakeholders, and build shared understanding across time zones.

Technical Process Integration

Author style guides and usage guidance aligned with existing component libraries to ensure consistent delivery.
